Getting Started

Due to the high volume of interest in the aeroclub, We require aspiring pilots to pass their FAA Private Pilot Written Knowledge Test prior to flight training 

Pilots that already hold a pilot certificate are able to join as new members.

How to become a pilot?

  • Regulation Requirement:

    • Read/Understand/Speak english 

    • Be at least 17 

    • Must have a 3rd class medical or basic med

    • Pass FAA Written Knowledge Test

    • Complete all aeronautical experience requirements (flight training) - 40 flight hours​​

    • Pass a FAA practical test (check ride) 

How long does it take?

  • The national average for a person to receive their PPL is 75 flight hours

  • This usually equates to 6-12 months of training to receive a pilot certificate

Items To Complete Prior To Membership

1. Complete a FAA Approved Ground Course

The aeroclub recommends aspiring pilots to purchase the following ground course. After successfully completing this course, a person in endorsed to take their FAA Written Knowledge Test. 

2. Get a FAA Medical 

Ensure you are eligible to pass a FAA medical here. Apply for your medical here. You will be required to go to a Aeromedical Doctor for a physical exam. 

3. Create IACRA Acccount

In order to take your FAA Written Knowledge Test, you need a FAA Tracking Number. You must create an account here. A step by step guide can be found hereYou will need to complete a TSA check if you are a foreign person, this can be found here.

4. Take the FAA Written Knowledge Test

After completing the ground course, it's time to take the test. You must register to take the test with PSI exams. The ground course should prep you for the test, but practice test can be taken here

5. Contact the Director of Education

If you successfully pass your Knowledge Test, contact the Director of Education to be scheduled with a flight instructor to start flight instruction.
